Whatpub update 66 (February)
EC4, TIPPERARY (Dominus). Closed again, probably for at
least 2 years.
EC4, JAMIES. No longer sells real ale.
EC3, BRITANNIA (Stonegate). No longer sells real ale.
EC2, EATALY, 135 Bishopgate. Modern food hall with a mixture
of cafés, shops, bars and restaurants. Food is primarily Italian.
Keg beer.
E8, KRAFT DALSTON. Closed along with brewery. Site to be
taken over by restaurateur.
E8, CROWN & CASTLE (Urban Pubs & Bars), 600 Kingsland
Rd. Real ale now available, Gun Project Babylon Pale Ale.
E4, ROYAL FOREST HOTEL (Waltham Forest
Council/Heartwood Collection), 4 Rangers Rd. Refurbished and
reopened by Heartwood Inns in December 2024. Four
handpumps serving Doom Bar, Tribute, Landlord and ELB
Cowcatcher.
E3, EAST LONDON LIQUOR CO (Canal & River Trust), 221
Grove Rd. Reopened as VICTORIA PARK by Pretty Decent
Brewery in November 2024. 12 craft beer taps.
E2, TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD SHOREDITCH, 22 Kingsland Rd.
Reopened as RINGSIDE, a sports bar with keg beer.
E2, KINGS ARMS (Grace Land). Taken over November 2024
and now sister pub of the Sutton Arms in Clerkenwell.
E11, SHEPHERD’S INN (Magic Living Ltd). Now a Pan-Asian
restaurant; no alcohol served.
E11, MAMMOTH TAP (The Arch Company), Closed, future
uncertain.
E11 2AL GEORGE (Wetherspoon), 159 High St. Reopened as
GEORGE & DRAGON by Urban Pubs & Bars with cask ale from
ELB and Five Points.
E14, QUEENS HEAD, 8 Flamborough St. Real ale reinstated:
two changing beers, eg Sharp’s Doom Bar and Timothy Taylor
Landlord.
E17, PRETTY DECENT & FRIENDS, First Floor, 17&Central, 42
Selbourne Walk. Located on the first floor of a shopping centre.
Ten keg beer taps.
E17, EXALE BREWING TAPROOM, Unit 2C, Uplands Business
Park. Real ale reinstated: a varying beer from Exale.
E17, BIG PENNY SOCIAL, 1 Priestley Way. Real ale reinstated:
two changing beers, eg Orbit Dead Wax and Redemption Big
Chief.

uncertain.
E17 4Ne Bell, 617 Forest Road - has reopened.
EC2A 3EJ LaLaLand, 19 Great Eastern St - closed end of 2023
- planning permission approved to redevelop site for a hotel &
restaurant.
EC2M 7PN, Boxhall City, 1-27 The Arcade - New Food court
with 14 vendors and two bars. 10 keg lines, bottles and cans.
Sister venue to Boxpark Shoreditch.
E1 5RN Carpenters Arms , 135 Cambridge Heath Road -
relaunched as 135 Bar & Lounge - an art deco cocktail bar with
6 keg beers.
E2 8HZ Brewhouse & Kitchen, 397-400 Geffrye Street -
rebranded as Hoxton Hound with the same operator - real ale
discontinued.
E17 9HQ Wild Card Barrel Room, Unit 9 Ravenswood Industrial
Est - reopening today as Malt Haus - a taproom for the nearby
Pillars Brewery.
E2 0AN Old George, 379 Bethnal Green Road - Cask ale
discontinued.

discount on real ale with a valid membership card.
E17 5RB High Hill Taproom, Unite 10 Lockwood Way - closed
as Hackney brewery in dispute with the council - it's landlord.
Brewery is unaffected.
E20 1DH Roots , 3 West View Walk - closed 2023 reopened as
BoBo & Wild restaurant/cocktail bar with a keg beer.
EC1M 4AY Barsmith, 18-20 St John's St - closed in 2019 for
building development - reopened as Space Talk - cocktail bar
with immersive Hi-Fi sounds.
E17 4NE Bell, 617 Forest Rd - closed on public health grounds
on March 11th - not clear when, or if, it will reopen.
EC1A 9LH Oriole - closed 2022 - space being absorbed into the
New Museum of London.
EC1A 9NB Smithfield Free House - closed 2003 space being
absorbed into the New Museum of London.
EC2A 3AT Wingmans Shoreditch 152 Curtain Road - reopened
as Tatar Bunar a Ukrainian Restaurant.
EC4V 4EG Black Friar, 174 Queen Victoria Street - reopened
after refurbishment.
EC4A 4BL Hoop & Grapes, 80 Farringdon Street - closed for
area redevelopment at end of 2020 - scaffolding removed and
pub's facade is now visible again!.
E2 6JY Boxcar Taproom, Unit 1 Birkbeck Street - has
reopened as Umbrella Cider House Taproom 3 keg ciders from
Umbrella and 3 keg beers from Two Tribes.
E11 3AA Birds 692 High Street - Real ale reinstated - Landlord
& 2 guests..
E10 6RE Chop Shop Tavern, 141 Tilbury Road - traditional
style pub in a railway arch - 6 keg lines from local breweries.
E10 6RE Leyton Calling 145 Tilbury Road - Tropical Cocktail
bar with a keg beer.
E10 7QP Queer Brewing Taproom, Unit D2, Leyton Industrial
Village, Argyll Way - new brewery and taproom - 6 keg beers
brewed on site and cans.
EC3N 1NU Chamberlain Hotel , 132-135 Minories - closed until
May for refurbishment.
E1 6BX Water Poet, 9-11 Folgate Street - redevelopment has
finished - there is an unnamed,modern pub/dining experience
for lease where the Water Poet used to be.
E9 6RG Gun, 235 Well St - operators have closed this with
immediate effect due to financial reasons. Lease on the market.
EC2A 3PD Apothecary, 35-42 Charlotte St - closed June 2024
- reopened as Kricket Shoreditch - a bar, Cafe & Restaurant - 3
keg beers & Indian food.
EC4A 3BQ Be at One, 18 Wine Office Court, Hill House, Shoe
Lane - closed 2022 - planning permission approved for 3 year
change of use to a community space [to May 2027]. Currently
occupied by Urban Farmers Project. There is a separate
planning application to demolish the building and redevelop
[likely to start in 2026 if approved.]
E9 6JP Plough, 23 Homerton High St - closed as operator went
into liquidation. Lease for sale.
E8 3RH Martello Hall, 137 Mare St - rebranded as London
Fields by operator Urban Pubs & Bars.
E17 5QJ Beerblefish Brewing Taproom , 2A-4 Uplands
Business Park - brewery has ceased trading and the taproom
has closed.
E10 7DN Bootlaces, 596 Lea Bridge Road - reverted to a
previous name of The Auctioneer.
EC4V 4EG Black Friar, 174 Queen Victoria St - closed for
refurbishment - website says it will open March 27th.
E15 4PH Queens Head, 5 West Ham Lane - No cask ale -
handpumps removed
E14 5RE Pitch Wharf, 30 Churchill Pace - opened February
2025 & EC2N 4AW Pitch City, 64 Bishopgate - opened early
2019. - sister venues with golfing games. Both have bars open
to the public though some of the venues are restricted to
members. Keg beer.
E15 1PF Bar One, 5-7 Leytonstone Road - closed at the start
of the pandemic - has reopened as Cheers Bar & Lounge. Keg
Beer.
E15 4NL Manby Arms, 19 Water Lane - demolition has started
to convert to housing - the facade should be retained.
E2 9LE CAV, 255 Paradise Row - cocktail bar with rotating food
residencies in a railway arch. New bar.
E17 7PF True Craft, 18-20 St James Street - opened December
2023. 10 keg lines, Bottles and pizza. Unreported bar.
EC3N 3AE New bar: Feeney's Lloyds Avenue, 5 Lloyds Avenue
- Third bar in Irish themed chain - keg beer.
E10 7EQ Spark House, 557-559 Lea Bridge Road - reopened
by Remarkable pubs after refurbishment as The European - 3
guest ales - started with Landlord/Ghost Ship/5 Points Best.

E5 8EE Black Hen, 181 Clarence Road - relaunched as Wing &
a Prayer - an LGBTQ+ friendly pub and sister pub to Nelsons
E2. Keg Beer.
E17 5QJ Beerblefish Taproom, Uplands Business Park - will
close March 9th.
E1 6HT Knave of Clubs, 25 Bethnal Green Road - reopened
after being closed for over 30 years. Restaurant upstairs. Three
hand pumps - cask ale likely to be from Allsop's.
EC1V 1LP Alchemist, 145 City Road - closed at the same time
as the new Monument venue opened - lease on the market.
E11 3AA Red Lion, 640 High Road - reopened after
refurbishment - now has a separate bar and still does Real Ale
EC2M 7NH Railway Tavern, 15 Liverpool Street - reopened
after refurbishment - still does Real ale.
E16 1EE Hallsville Tavern, 57 Hallsville Road - closed in 2012 -
has since operated as a restaurant and then an event space.
Planning permission applied for to demolish and replace with
housing - 23/00098/FUL
EC2A 2AH Platform, 2b Worship Street - Electronic gaming bar
-has reopened closed for around 6 months.
E1 8EU Oliver Conquest, 70 Leman St - closed for
refurbishment - should take around 6 weeks.
EC2N 4AJ Bread St Kitchen, Level 59, 22 Bishopgate - latest
bar & Restaurant from Gordon Ramsay with another restaurant
& Cocktail bar on with a roof terrace.
E17 4QH Soho Theatre, 186 Hoe St - opens in May 2025 -
redevelopment has absorbed the space of the pubs
Mirth,Marvel & Mauud, Victoria Tavern and Welcome to the
forest.
EC2V 5HA Davys, 25 Basinghall Street - space absorbed into
redevelopment of building.
EC2Y 9AE Rack & Tenter, 45 Moorfields - being demolished for
an office block.
